Aurex Constructors construct solar plant in Sedibeng
Sedibeng, Gauteng, February 2022 – Aurex Constructors began works on the photovoltaic (PV) solar plant in Sedibeng in mid-October last year. Aurex was awarded the Sub-Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (Sub-EPC) contract to execute the 7.5MW plant build.
When performing projects of this nature in the past, Aurex has traditionally subcontracted the piling, structure, and PV module installations (mechanical package). This is the first time they are self-performing these elements. During a site walk on the 17th of February this year, CEO of Aurex, Stuart Kent, commented on the pride shown by the project team when demonstrating the precision of the mechanical package installation, to the highest of quality standards.
Aurex Project Manager, Mike Grobler, explained that despite abnormal rain conditions of more than 700mm between December 2021 and February 2022 (yes, seven hundred millimetres) the project is on schedule and construction is expected to finish by the end of April. Mike shared the great news that the team successfully achieved 50,000 man-hours without any injuries. Customer audits have resulted in showing 100% compliance to safe practices which is a testament to the stability of the local workforce who take responsibility for their actions and ensure the safety of themselves and their colleagues.
Mike went on to say that machine operators are being trained to work all equipment for the entire installation, including Gayk’s, tractor loader backerhoes (TLB), pokers, pile drivers, and so many others. This ensures that everyone on the team is efficiently utilised throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
