Caring Engen fuel retailers from Johannesburg and Tshwane have completed another delivery of food hampers to Diepsloot families, taking their total deliveries of basic necessities over the course of the national lockdown to 6 350.

A final delivery of 350 food parcels and other essential items was delivered to the elderly and infirm on 28 May, bringing these residents much-needed relief.

The long-standing relationship between the Engen fuel retailers and the Diepsloot community ensured that families and residents with the greatest needs were carefully identified to ensure that they received relief packages.

Supported by the authorities, the team adhered to strict COVID-19 safety regulations during

the door-to-door deliveries, ensuring social distancing, mask-wearing and regular hand-sanitising.

“We as Engen fuel retailers are committed to collaborating with and serving our communities. We

hope we have brought some relief to the many families who have been severely impacted by the

national lockdown,” says Tshepo Magadla, spokesperson for Engen’ s Johannesburg Fuel Retailers CSI committee.

Having assisted over 6 000 families with food and basic supplies over the past two months, the

Engen fuel retailers extended a word of thanks to all involved.

The plan ahead, adds Magadla, is to provide Sunrise Secondary School in Diepsloot with a water borehole, which will benefit over 1 000 learners and teachers who have been struggling without water for the past 14 years.

Engen General Manager: Retail, Seelan Naidoo says the company encourages and supports Engen

dealers who engage with their local communities, especially during these unprecedented times.

“As a company that cares deeply about the communities in which we operate, and cognizant of the

intense hardship brought upon many by COVID-19, we again commend this group of Engen dealers for their consistent show of community support,” says Naidoo.
