Hudaco Power Transmissions enhances its industrial gearboxes offering
Hudaco Power Transmissions is leveraging its solid reputation and grounding in the geared motors sector to offer its customers an extended range of large industrial gearboxes and transmission solutions.
Formerly known as Bauer Geared Motors South Africa, the company was founded in 1984 as the sole distributor in Southern Africa of the Bauer range of products, and was purchased in 2002 by the Hudaco Group.
“This alignment with Hudaco’s well-respected technology solutions has helped to introduce us to new possibilities and market sectors. The name change aligns with the growing demand by the market for us to extend our existing product base in our quest to offer a more comprehensive selection to our customers. This fact was underlined by the company receiving a substantial contract to supply equipment to the Tippler upgrade project at the Saldanha Iron Ore Export Plant,” says Derek Gilmore, MD of Hudaco Power Transmissions.
The company’s success in supplying large gearboxes to the Tippler upgrade project clearly showcases its capabilities and competencies. Gilmore explains that these industrial gearboxes are manufactured by India-based OEM, Elecon Engineering Company Ltd., one of the largest manufacturers of industrial gear units in Asia. These rugged and reliable gearboxes boast a service factor >2 and 100 000-hour design life and have a large footprint in various sectors worldwide.
“We signed an agreement with Elecon in November 2020, thereby adding sole supply of their entire range. This includes a new proprietary high-performance range, as well as the Radicon industrial worm gearbox range that have a large footprint in the mining and sugar processing. Elecon have a variety of power transmissions up to massive 9MW drives, and this agreement also sees us supplying new bevel helical Elecon drives or drop-in retrofit solutions for older gear units that are obsolete or no longer supported,” says Gilmore.
The addition of retrofit solutions effectively expands the vertical sectors the company is able to address, since these solutions are suitable for a wide range of industrial market segments and applications.
“As part of our strategic business growth trajectory plan, we have signed further sole distributor agreements with a number of international OEMs. We became the sole Southern African distributor for I-Mak in July 2019, which has allowed us to add products for the mining, manufacturing, water, utilities and steel industry solutions that complement our existing Bauer range. In January 2021, we became the sole distributor for GSM’s Industrial gear units, further reinforcing our mining offer. Together, these five technology ranges provide us with a far greater depth and breadth of solutions,” says Gilmore.
“The addition of these ranges to our current customer offering will allow Hudaco Power Transmissions to actively pursue new market sectors and leverage the capacities and capabilities of our parent company. By promoting our full portfolio and business acumen to our customers, we will be able to both widen our scope of supply and simultaneously create turnkey project solutions for our customers. We add further value by offering local content, assembly, repair services, testing and commissioning,” he adds.
