Proconics and Sasol have a proud 27-year history of working together. Both companies have consistently invested in South African talent, building the local capability to execute EPC projects. This partnership cements that relationship, and allows the partners to leverage their investment, and return benefits to the fence line communities in which we live and work. In a partnership such as this, value is created in many forms. We are entering an exciting era in our energy history, and it will surely be one focused not only on asset sustainability, but also on creating human and environmental capital. Sasol has a proud history of innovation, being the first company to successfully commercialize and operate the complex technologies implemented in Sasolburg and Secunda. Contributing to Sasol’s trailblazing technology leadership, and how that is being positioned for a new low carbon future, makes Proconics proud of our shared South African roots. Proconics has continued to innovate; learning, growing, and diversifying our footprint within a hypercompetitive and capital constrained market. We are immensely proud of this growth and excited to share our talent in the solving of new problems in our country and abroad.

Africa scores extremely positively on global innovation indices, but South Africa continues to track below world medians in terms of access to engineers and scientists, at least the perceived access to engineers and scientists. Where engineering meets innovation, economies grow. Proconics believes that this perception can be changed, and we will continue to invest in providing high quality talent, locally. Our company owners, leadership, engineers, project managers, safety and construction professionals all live in and contribute to the communities in which we are established. We breathe local.

The South African Petrochemical landscape will need to navigate through a myriad of permutations from reconfiguration, cash conservation and asset life extension to environmental compliance, efficiency improvement and new energy scenarios. Many of these projects require direct integration into existing production process, be that in chemical or refining facilities. As a specialist brownfield execution house, Proconics believes that blending tight controls with pragmatic decision making is vital when executing in a running plant. Conflicting priorities on brownfield projects require a depth of operational understanding and shared values to be successful. We believe in working in partnership with our clients to co-create tailored solutions that deliver on these unique requirements. That requires a team that can deal with complexity, is agile, empowered to take decisions and focused on the business outcome. Partnerships models such the one with Sasol, make this pragmatic and dynamic execution methodology possible.

Partnerships and inter professional collaboration will be a cornerstone of South Africa’s sustainability and contribute to delivering on a just energy transition. In Sasol’s capital markets address, a continued focus was placed on preserving employment opportunities via localisation focus and partnering. What a proud day to conclude this partnership, a South African born energy and chemicals giant with proudly South African EPCs. We look forward to doing our part in creating South African engineering and construction career paths and supporting Sasol in their Just Transition ambitions. A day possible because of many, each giving their talents, minds, and hearts – What a time to be a South African engineer!
