Steinmüller Africa empowers TVET College with generous engine donation
Steinmüller Africa, the continent’s leading steam and high-pressure piping expert, recently donated two non-running engines to the motor mechanics centre at the Nkangala TVET College in Middelburg to facilitate practical exposure for students.
The donation was a result of Steinmüller Africa’s partnership with the College. This agreement helps to ensure that students studying Automatic Mechanics are given field experience by the company.
The engines taken from cranes serve as invaluable resources for hands-on learning, providing entry-level students with a practical understanding of the different components of internal combustion engines. Through the opportunity to strip and reassemble these engines, students gain essential skills for a successful career in the mechanical industry.
To bolster its support to the College, Steinmüller Africa arranged for two lecturers to visit its Bethal depot, where the company maintains its vehicle fleet. This visit gave the lecturers more insights into mechanics and workshop operations, positively contributing to the training curriculum. In addition, the company’s support will help the College’s motor mechanics centre obtain Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) accreditation by bolstering facilities and sharing up-to-date industry expertise.
Elma Oosthuizen, Project Manager at the Nkangala TVET College highlighted the importance of skills development in the mechanical industry, saying, “We understand the need for properly trained, knowledgeable mechanics. Our partnership with Steinmüller Africa allows us to help ensure that students are equipped with the information they need to have successful careers”.
The company remains committed to supporting the College’s motor mechanics centre by maintaining an open line of communication and offering trainees apprenticeship opportunities. Oosthuizen concludes, “We are proud to be increasing the pool of qualified mechanics, ensuring a brighter future for the industry”.
