Leading technology and solutions provider, ABB, will be a key exhibitor at the Sasolburg Petrochemical & Energy Roadshow. Organised by African Petrochemicals & Energy. The event takes place on 2 November at the Stonehaven On Vaal, Vanderbijlpark.
The roadshow will feature exhibitors from various fields related to petrochemicals and energy, such as engineering, manufacturing, safety, environmental management, and more. There will be ample opportunity to network with industry experts, learn about new products and services, and discover the latest trends and challenges in these sectors from leaders like ABB.
ABB is a global leader in providing low voltage (LV) products and solutions for the petrochemical, energy, and oil and gas sectors. These industries face many challenges such as increasing demand, environmental regulations, safety concerns, operational efficiency, and cost optimisation. “ABB’s technology assists customers to achieve their goals, with the roadshow being a particular opportunity to profile our holistic solutions,” comments Hennie Cilliers, Sales Specialist: Robotics.
A range of LV switchgear and MCCs provide reliable power distribution and motor control for various applications. ABB’s switchgear and MCCs meet the highest standards of safety, performance, reliability, and flexibility. They also offer smart features such as digitalisation, connectivity, and analytics that enable remote monitoring, diagnostics, and optimisation of the electrical system.
Its LV circuit breakers protect electrical circuits from overloads and short circuits. They offer high breaking capacity, fast operation, selective coordination, and arc fault detection. ABB’s circuit breakers also support digitalisation and automation such as communication protocols, smart sensors, and remote control.
ABB is also a global leader in providing excitation systems for industrial plants such as power plants, oil and gas facilities, mining operations, and more. Excitation systems are essential to control the voltage and reactive power of generators and motors for optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency.
ABB’s UNITROL and SYNCHROTACT products are used specifically in the power generation industry. UNITROL is a series of indirect excitation systems for synchronous generators and motors with exciters. SYNCHROTACT is a synchronising equipment that protects power plant generators and substation components from the potentially destructive effects of current surges caused by unsynchronised operating conditions.
The latest iteration is SYNCHROTACT 6, the world’s most popular synchroniser for highest levels of availability. It can synchronise up to 20 different circuit breakers with a single unit and is backwardly compatible with previous generations for easy and cost-effective retrofits.
A key display to excite attendees at the ABB stand about the endless possibilities of robotic automation is sure to be the YuMi robot. ABB will have its YuMi robot either do a name spelling or pick-and-place demo. VR goggles will be used to display robotic simulations in the virtual world, explains Hennie Cilliers from ABB, adding that there will be a thirty-minute presentation on ABB’s robotic solutions during the course of the day.
YuMi is a collaborative robot (cobot) that can perform small parts assembly tasks with precision and flexibility. YuMi is an acronym for ‘you and me’, which reflects the idea of human-robot collaboration. It is a dual-arm robot launched by ABB in 2015 as the world’s first truly collaborative robot. Its compact, lightweight design requires no more space than a human workstation. It also has soft padding and rounded edges to prevent injuries to humans. YuMi has seven degrees of freedom in each arm, which gives it great dexterity and agility. It can handle objects weighing up to 500 g with a repeatability of 0.02 mm.
YuMi can adapt to changing production needs and handle a variety of tasks and products. It can work with different tools and grippers, switch between them automatically, and learn new skills through intuitive lead-through programming. It can increase productivity by reducing cycle times, improving quality, and freeing up human workers for more value-added tasks.
Be sure to visit ABB at Stand 12 (indoors) and Stand L24 (outdoors). The roadshow is free to attend. Be sure to register here, so you do not miss out on the full ABB experience.
